Bio of The Day: Ozzy Osbourne
Saturday, 19 May 2012
Ozzy Osbourne was born on the 3rd of December 1948. His birth name was John Michael Osbourne but he is known worldwide as Ozzy Osbourne. Osbourne’s career has spanned over 40 years now and he is still going! Ozzy is also known as “The prince of darkness” and “The Godfather of heavy metal”.
Ozzy was born in Aston, Birmingham. His mother worked for a car components firm and his father worked shifts as a toolmaker at GEC. Osbourne had two brothers and three sisters. They lived in a small two bedroomed house. Ozzy grew up with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Childhood was difficult for him as he was often teased by other children and the teachers did not understand his disabilities. Osbourne was a great fan of the Beatles. He left school at just the age of 15 and got a job as a site labourer at a construction site, a trainee plumber, apprentice toolmaker, car factory horn-tuner and also a worker in a slaughterhouse. His teenage years were tough and he had to spend 6 weeks in prison after being found guilty of a burglary at a clothes store.
In 1967 Ozzy and Geezer Butler formed a band called “Rare Breed”. The band only played 2 gigs and then split up. Geezer and Ozzy reformed the band in Polka Tulk Blues along with drummer Bill Ward and guitarist Tony Lommi. The changed the name to earth but there was problems with another band having the same name so they finally changed their name to “Black Sabbath” in 1969.
Black Sabbath had a lot of success. They released their debut album “Paranoid” which sold in masses. Black Sabbath was growing more and more popular. Black Sabbath released many other albums which were big hits and they were very successful in their time. Ozzy was fired from the band in 1979 as he there was a lot of tension between band members. Osbourne was accused of excessive drug and alcohol abuse even though he claims he was taking no more than the rest of the band.
Ozzy Osbourne then went solo. The Ozzy band formed again with Sharon Arden as “The Blizzard of Ozz”. The album sold very well and was very popular. This album is known worldwide for the songs “Crazy Train” and “Mr Crowley”. Osbourne released many more songs and albums and many were great hits.
One of Osbourne’s greatest financial successes in the 1990’s was “Ozzfest” which was created by his wife and manager Sharon Arden. The Ozzfest was a big hit to all heavy metal fans. It grossed in the US over $100 million. Ozzfest helped promote lots of new heavy metal bands of the 1990’s. It was one of his greatest successes of all time.
In the 2000’s Ozzy released a few albums which became very popular and made him a lot of money. His success was still growing and so was his fame.
Ozzy Osbourne is not as active today as he was a few years ago. He is still making music but his career is slowly coming to a halt. Ozzy was one of the greatest heavy metal artists of all time.

Marilyn Manson scores a Top 10 debut on Billboard 200
Thursday, 10 May 2012
AWESOME! Marilyn Manson scores a Top 10 debut on the Billboard 200 album chart with his new album Born Villain.
Manson’s latest album Born Villain lands at Number 10 on the Billboard chart this week, selling 39,000 copies. It is Manson’s seventh Top 10 album. Unfortunately it has sold less than his last release, The High End of Low [2009], which cracked the Top 5 and sold nearly 50,000 copies its opening week.
In my opinion Born Villain is a far far superior album than the High End of Low, which in my opinion felt a bit too un-organised. It felt like it was cramming in as many one liners as possible in the hopes that they would all culminate in something that would work; they did, but the album was far from brilliant and far far away from the genius that exhumed from his prior albums.
This album really does change all that, it is genius; it obviously doesn't compete with the likes of Antichrist Superstar - I think that's more down to the world than Manson, in the 90's the world was younger and easily shocked. Born Villain conveys an array of emotions and although the theme is dark (as you'd expect from the God of F***), it's dark in an uplifting way! Although I was initially sceptical about Johnny Depp's input to the track 'You're So Vein', I think it works surprisingly well, I'd almost go as far to say that it's one of my favourite tracks on the new album.

Increase Your Alexa Ranking NOW!
Wednesday, 9 May 2012
A few days ago I embarked on a journey to reinvent my site and personal blog - everything from a complete redesign to search engine optimisation. You can see the results for yourself! Anyway when I started off I had minimal exposure on Google and no first page links (albeit I had a PageRank 2), now I almost every post on this blog is ranking in on the first page for my keywords.
One thing that was bugging me big time was the fact that no matter hoe hard I tried I couldn't obtain any ranking on Alexa. Now Alexa is a bit archaic and completely irrelevant to the traffic that drives your site, however many websites still use Alexa data to generate reports about your site; so no matter what anyone says it is important to be in good standing with Alexa. Alexa traffic ranks are obtained by generating a report of how many users visit your site with the Alexa toolbar installed; I know right pretty shite - who wants to install a crappy toolbar probably filled with advertising garbage.
I found an alternate method of obtaining a traffic rank which basically involves installing a widget on your site which indicates what your current rank is; this then in turn relays information back to Alexa completely bypassing the need for the toolbar. Some people on various SEO forums say that this does not work, well I can assure you it does and it only takes a couple of days to make a difference. Here is the code for their basic widget:
<a href="http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/[YourURL]"><script type='text/javascript' src='http://xslt.alexa.com/site_stats/js/t/a?url=[YourURL]'></script></a>Now the Only thing is that the widget is ugly, so I chose to hide it but still have it render on the page. This can be done by wrapping the code in a div - specifically a div with the following attributes:
<div style="display: none;">And that's it folks - I know have an Alexa ranking (albeit a very high one).
